PLCMC's vision
In aspiring to be America's best public library, we create:
- Opportunities for personal success in reading and learning for everyone
- Relevant, vibrant, and customer focused services
- Facilities and web sites that are preferred destinations
- Opportunities for staff to find value in their contributions to our mission
The best practices used to promote the vision of PLCMC:
- Ensure staff understands the library's mission and vision and how it factors into their work.
- Created the Just Ask Me (JAM) desk, a concierge style service, to assist patrons in their use of the library.
- Provide the opportunity for staff members to have work plan goals and other opportunities to take part in activities that promote the library's vision and mission.
- Reasonably fulfill special programming requests by organizations in the community.
- Offer one-on-one training on our online resources - including the PAC - for patrons by appointment.
- Create and maintain a customer service-focused staff that is trained from the beginning to offer the best customer service possible.
- Provide outreach to organizations in the community that can't come to the library, such as daycare centers, homeschooling groups and schools.
- Create programs that reflect the community's wants and needs.
- Actively promote the library's services to the community to create awareness of all we offer.
- Provide weekly computer training for the community.
- Actively promote our websites to patrons - many of whom are unaware of them.
- Keep signage up-to-date so patrons can find what they want quickly and efficiently.
- Cross-train staff to increase their understanding of how the library works as a whole and empower them to step in and help patrons at any service point in the building.
- Improve or implement processes that better assist the patron in getting the materials or information they need.
- Create programs for the community that reflect system-wide initiatives.
- Communicate with patrons and staff in a pleasant and informative manner both on the floor and over the phone.
- Use a community board to promote children's events and community events.
- Prominently post a copy of the Vision of PLCMC by online catalogs and in the staff's office.
- Help patrons become knowledgeable of and then self-sufficient in using our catalog and other online resources.
- Share system-wide initiatives and outcomes of initiatives with staff.
- Empower patrons to learn how to use Accelerated Reader lists and the online catalog to find materials.
