The best practices used concerning technology:
Technology and Programming
- Use a digital camera to document history of the department and also to market the department's programs.
- Created a wiki to have department-centric best practices accessible for updates and edits by the staff.
- Use an iPod for children's programming; the ability to download customized playlists allows for a smoother transition during storytime.
Computer labs and Printing
- .Use bright, succint signage in near Internet computers announcing policy and/or procedural changes impacting self-services access to Internet.
- Installed a doorbell in the Internet Lab for patrons to ring for assistance.
- Library cards are created at the first point of contact.
-
Staff Training
- Staff well-trained to troubleshoot problems with both hardware and software.
- Staff attend PLCMC training workshops.

- Staff are provided the time to pace themselves through tutorials.
- All staff are trained on Envisionware and Print Management.

Staff-Patron Interaction
- Horizon automatically checks new applications for common errors so we could eliminate the background task of having staff go behind with every application and check for accuracy.
- Promote our online account features where patrons can sign up for ELF, check requests, pay fines, etc.
- New patrons use online kiosks to apply for a library card.
- Conduct a "new library card interview" with each new cardholder. This 60-second briefing goes over the main responsibilities of having a library card, some of our major policies, the fine schedule, and the online services we offer.
- Actively promote online databases.
- Offer one-on-one appointments to patrons to teach them email, online databases, PAC, etc.
